Qingqing quickly connected the video call and poured out the details of his interactions with Wen Shu, his face growing redder by the moment. He asked for advice, “How should I act when dating? If he asks me out, should I agree? And what should we do after a date? Is just kissing enough?”
On the screen, Ye Zhi listened with a smile, but as the conversation progressed, he looked increasingly uncertain and a bit embarrassed. “I think I don’t really know either…”
“Really? Haven’t you and Mayor Huo gone on dates?”
Ye Zhi’s face turned red. “We have…” He hesitated, unable to continue, as their meetings were more secretive rendezvous than typical dates.
Qingqing, not realizing this, innocently pressed on, “So what do you do on your dates?”
Ye Zhi stammered, unsure how to answer. Suddenly, the screen flickered, and a small baby appeared in Ye Zhi’s arms, placed there by a man who had joined them on the call. The man, having heard their conversation, answered for Ye Zhi, “We sleep together.”
Qingqing was taken aback and hastily greeted, “Hello, Mayor Huo.” His gaze shifted to the baby, and his expression softened, “Hello, Yao Yao.”
Huo Yao was almost a year old, and his features combined the best of both parents, making him exceptionally cute. Recognizing Qingqing, he smiled, showing two tiny teeth, and waved, “Ya!”
Huo Youqiao greeted Qingqing too, “Good evening.” He then chuckled, “So things are progressing with Wen Shu?”
Qingqing blushed. “Did you hear everything?”
Huo Youqiao smiled, “Even if I hadn’t, Wen Shu’s behavior gave it away. He was so out of sorts recently that I almost put him on unpaid leave. Luckily, he seems to have bounced back.”
Qingqing was surprised, “Really?”
So it wasn’t just him who was struggling.
“Are you seeking advice from Zhi Zhi? You might be disappointed; our experience isn’t the best model. The important thing is that you genuinely want to be together. The pace doesn’t matter.”
Ye Zhi agreed, “Exactly. And you’ve already been honest with each other, so it doesn’t really matter how you proceed.”
Qingqing whispered, “I’m just afraid I’ll mess things up.” He was still worried because he hadn’t revealed everything. Wen Shu didn’t yet know about the secret of his body.
Something so abnormal, he wasn’t sure Wen Shu could accept.
Their first date as a couple happened soon after. They watched a movie and then had dinner together. Wen Shu had originally booked a very expensive restaurant, but Qingqing asked him to cancel it as soon as he found out. Wen Shu initially refused, “Don’t worry about the cost. I can afford it.”
Qingqing was concerned about Wen Shu’s wallet, so he used another excuse, “It’s not that. I just don’t like the food there. I can’t get used to high-end ingredients, especially when they’re half-cooked. They make me nauseous. I used to just tolerate it. I prefer normal food.”
Wen Shu then canceled the reservation and asked, “Where would you like to eat then?”
Qingqing looked around and chose a busy restaurant, “How about here?”
After dinner, it was time to take Qingqing home, but they were reluctant to part. Qingqing was unsure when the right moment to kiss was. He got into Wen Shu’s car, thinking about it the whole ride. When the car stopped, he still hadn’t figured out the right moment. Seeing that Wen Shu wasn’t making a move either, he wondered if he was being too impatient.
But then Wen Shu said, “It’s still early. Would you like to come up to my place for a bit?”
Qingqing was surprised, “Your place?” He glanced out the window, “But you already drove me home. Wouldn’t it be a bit far to go back to your place now?”
They were parked near the food street, a ten-minute walk from Qingqing’s family shop.
Wen Shu replied, “I actually moved in two days ago. My new place is just in that building over there.”
