Chapter 86

Unlike the tail, Lin Xiaoran seemed to really enjoy having his ears touched. After Gu Yang gave them a couple of gentle strokes, Lin Xiaoran appeared to want more, tilting his head and nuzzling against Gu Yang’s palm.

The soft, adorable gesture stirred something in Gu Yang’s chest, making him feel an irresistible urge. Unable to resist, he leaned down and kissed the fox ears, watching as they twitched sharply in response. Lin Xiaoran, his soft Omega nature apparent, looked up at him, his clear eyes now filled with a misty sheen.

At that moment, Gu Yang could no longer hold back. He quickly leaned in, pressing Lin Xiaoran down.

Gu Yang realized that his self-control practically evaporated when he was around his Omega. He found it especially easy to lose control with Lin Xiaoran—more so than with anyone else.

He was concerned that after exhausting Lin Xiaoran the night before, he might push too far and get kicked away, but to his surprise, Lin Xiaoran didn’t resist. Instead, he wrapped his arms around Gu Yang’s neck.

Gu Yang even noticed his tail swaying slowly, a clear sign that he was comfortable and at ease.

Gu Yang’s hand itched to touch the tail again, and he reached out stealthily. When the two of them were in a tender moment, his Omega was always at his most docile. Things that weren’t normally allowed between them seemed to be permissible at this time. Of course, Gu Yang knew that Lin Xiaoran would eventually get back at him for it.

But that was for later. At this moment, Gu Yang couldn’t be bothered by anything else.

His fingers brushed against the soft fur of the tail, and there was no resistance.

Encouraged, he gently grasped the tail, caressing it.

“Mm…”

Lin Xiaoran didn’t scold him. Instead, he tightened his hold around Gu Yang’s neck, and Gu Yang clearly felt the shift in his body. His eyes widened in surprise—so touching the tail had this effect?

This was great!

Unable to contain himself, Gu Yang kissed Lin Xiaoran’s soft, rosy lips and then kept holding onto the tail.

Suddenly, a loud knocking sound interrupted the moment.

Knock knock knock!

“Daddy, Papa, let’s build a snowman!”

A snowman?

The abrupt sound made Gu Yang jump. He opened his eyes, only to meet Lin Xiaoran’s gaze. In that moment, Gu Yang realized it had all been a dream.

A wave of disappointment washed over him, and he missed the slight flicker of embarrassment in Lin Xiaoran’s eyes when their gazes met. Lin Xiaoran quickly looked away, gently pushing Gu Yang off, changing into clothes, and heading to the door to let the little one in.

The little one was still in pajamas, holding a small stuffed rabbit, and when he saw Lin Xiaoran, he rushed over to him, leaping into his arms.

“Daddy, the sun’s up! Let’s build a snowman! I want to show Papa too!” The little one snuggled against Lin Xiaoran’s neck, smelling of milk.

“Sure, but we need to eat breakfast first.” Lin Xiaoran kissed the little one’s chubby cheek and smiled.

“I already ate,” the little one replied. “Aunt Zhang made me breakfast. I ate and then noticed you and Papa were still in bed, so I came to knock. You guys are so lazy, it’s already morning!”

Since the little one went to bed early every night, he woke up quite early.

When he first started walking, the first thing he would do when waking up was go to the master bedroom. There were many times when he stumbled upon the two adults in a somewhat compromising state. He would innocently ask, “Papa, why are you on top of Daddy? Is it too heavy for Daddy? Is he in pain?” Or, “Daddy, why are there so many red dots on your neck? Did a mosquito bite you? I’ll blow on it for you.”

The child didn’t mean anything by it, of course, but it made the two adults incredibly embarrassed every time.

So Gu Yang had seriously sat down with their two-year-old, giving him a little talk. He explained that when entering someone’s room, he should always knock and wait for permission—it was simply rude to barge in otherwise.

Lin Xiaoran didn’t expect the little one to truly understand, but after that talk, the child started knocking on doors in the morning.

However, at night, when he wanted to sleep with Lin Xiaoran, he wasn’t so polite. He would run to his own room early, grab a pillow or his rabbit, and knock lightly on the door. Regardless of whether the knock was answered, he would open it, holding the pillow, standing at the doorway with his big, round eyes looking at Lin Xiaoran pitifully and asking in a soft voice, “Can I sleep with Daddy tonight? Papa has been asleep for a long time, it’s my turn now, right?”

Every time the little one did this, Gu Yang wanted to spank him, but each time, Lin Xiaoran’s heart melted, and he couldn’t say no.

Once Lin Xiaoran gave a nod, the little one would smile brightly and, clutching his pillow, climb into the bed between them, happy to snuggle in.

This was one of the reasons why Gu Yang was so determined to buy a new villa.

But clearly, the little one would always find a way to return when needed.

Lin Xiaoran carefully placed the little one on the bed, pinching his cheek. “It’s your dad who’s being lazy. Tell him to wake up and come build a snowman with you.” After saying this, he turned and headed into the bathroom to wash up.

Gu Yang, still lounging in bed, didn’t move. He was inherently lazy at heart. Back in school, he always woke up later than Lin Xiaoran, often stumbling into school just in time to be late. Later, in order to attend school with Lin Xiaoran, he had to force himself to wake up early.

After university, when he started his own business, things got tough, and he had to do everything himself in the early stages. Those years, he only got about five to six hours of sleep each night, often working non-stop.

It was probably those tough years that drained him of most of his once-strong diligence and discipline. Now that everything had settled into a stable rhythm, and his plans were being steadily executed, his lazy side was making a comeback. Unless absolutely necessary, he was unlikely to wake up early.

The little one, however, didn’t care about his laziness. He clambered over to Gu Yang, still in his fluffy pajamas, and earnestly looked at him. “Papa, the sun’s already out. Hurry and get up. Let’s build a snowman! Daddy wants to see it too. Let’s build one for him, he’ll be so happy… mmm…”

Before the little one could finish his sentence, Gu Yang quickly grabbed him and pulled the blanket back over both of them. “Alright, I’ll definitely build a snowman with you today—this afternoon, okay?”

“Mm~” The little one pouted, dissatisfied. “Papa is always breaking promises. You said you’d play with me this morning. I’m going to tell Daddy…” He stopped suddenly.

Then, the little one started lifting the blanket and felt around beneath him with curiosity. “What’s this?”

Gu Yang had no idea what he was doing until the little one pulled out the fox ears that Lin Xiaoran had worn the night before.

Ah…

It seemed Lin Xiaoran had taken them off in the middle of the night, probably feeling uncomfortable.

The little one, as if he’d discovered a treasure, looked at the ears with bright eyes. “What is this? Is it White Sugar’s ears? No, White Sugar’s ears are white. Red Sugar’s ears?”

The little one rambled to himself while placing the ears on his own head. “Meow meow!” he cheered at Gu Yang. “Do I look like White Sugar now? I’m White Sugar’s friend now. I’m a kitty too! I’m going to find White Sugar!”

With that, he ran out of the room, still wearing the fox ears.

At that very moment, Lin Xiaoran emerged from the bathroom and saw his son proudly wearing the very item he and Gu Yang had used the night before for a playful moment. Lin Xiaoran’s expression shifted slightly.

The little one, completely unaware, smiled widely at Lin Xiaoran, showing all his teeth. “Daddy, I’m a kitty now! Meow, meow! Do I look like White Sugar?”

Lin Xiaoran: “…You do, but…” It’s better if you don’t wear them?

However, the little one was so happy that he didn’t even wait for Lin Xiaoran to finish speaking. He excitedly ran off to find White Sugar.

The two adults exchanged an awkward glance, both feeling embarrassed. Though the little one had no idea what the ears were for, seeing their child wearing them made both parents feel a little self-conscious.

But the little one didn’t care, and kept wearing the fox ears, even as he played in the snow and with White Sugar.

Aunt Zhang, the housekeeper, was nearby, and when she saw Lin Xiaoran and Gu Yang come down, she cheerfully showed them the pictures she had taken of the little one wearing the ears. “Look how cute he looks in them! I’ve taken so many photos, I’ll print them out later. When he’s older, we can show him how cute he was.”

Uh, maybe not.

Both men awkwardly chose to remain silent.

They silently hoped that the little one would quickly lose interest and abandon the ears—hopefully far away from them.

But it was clear that the little one was quite sentimental about them. He wouldn’t take them off, even when Gu Yang used the promise of building a snowman as an excuse to lure him away.

The villa had gardens both in the front and back. The front had a large, flat area, and after a night of snowfall, the ground was blanketed in thick, white snow.

The little one, like a little furnace, wasn’t bothered by the cold. He wore boots and ran around in the snow, but because he was dressed so warmly, he only managed to run a couple of steps before stumbling and falling onto the snow.

It didn’t hurt.

He got up, brushed the snow off, and kept running, only to fall again.

Eventually, he grew tired of running and went over to build the snowman with his dad. “Let’s build together,” he said, though really, he wasn’t much help—just running around Gu Yang, circling him.

Lin Xiaoran stood in the hallway holding the little one’s warm bottle, watching them. Suddenly, he was reminded of a time long ago, when they were still in the South, during their senior year of high school, when a rare snowstorm had occurred. Back then, he had stood in this very hallway watching Gu Yang build a snowman by himself.

At that time, it had just been Gu Yang. Now, there was the little one, the most adorable child in the world, standing alongside him.

Lin Xiaoran quickly ran back to the room, grabbed his phone, and took a photo of the scene. He had done the same thing years ago.

More than a decade had passed, and aside from the addition of the adorable little one, Gu Yang had changed too. The handsome, sunny young man had grown into a confident, mature, and equally handsome man.

Lin Xiaoran couldn’t help but get lost in thought as he stared at the two photos on his phone, separated by time and space.

“What are you looking at?” Gu Yang had approached him at some point and, seeing the photo, was surprised. He hadn’t known that Lin Xiaoran had taken this photo all those years ago.

If only one of the photos was seen, it would seem like just a normal photo. But together, they held so much more meaning.

Gu Yang took the phone from Lin Xiaoran’s hands, unable to hide his pride. “These photos are amazing. I’m going to post them on Weibo.”

With that, he logged into his rarely used Weibo account, posted the two photos without any caption, and logged out again.

He had said it was to show off, but in reality, it was just to commemorate the moment.

Nevertheless, the photos quickly made their way onto the trending topics.

Gu Yang, already famous as one of the youngest and most accomplished entrepreneurs in the country, wasn’t lacking in attention. He was also an idol to many young people hoping to make their own mark. On top of that, his strikingly handsome face only added to his popularity.

Adding to the mix was his fanbase of people shipping him and Lin Xiaoran together. Even though his Weibo account was just a formality, there were still many followers.

And then, just as his dormant Weibo account suddenly updated on his birthday, the attention it received was immense.

【Wow, is it going to rain red today? Our CEO actually posted on Weibo!】

The Weibo post from Gu Yang quickly caught the attention of his followers, sparking a flurry of comments.

【To be honest, Mr. Gu is handsome, but little Gu Ran is my favorite. Mr. Gu, you can have the love, but the adorable little one belongs to me!】

【What’s going on? The president of the Gu Ran fan club is here, what do you all want?】

【The little one is so cute!】

【Gathering a team to steal the kid (1/5)】

【I want to know if there’s any way to skip all the steps and just get a Gu Ran of my own?】

【Wait, has Mr. Gu really fallen that far out of favor? I mean, the little one is adorable and all, but Mr. Gu is still super handsome!】

【I miss Dr. Lin, why isn’t he in the photos Mr. Gu posted? Shouldn’t the old photos include him too? Why does it feel like the past was him with Dr. Lin and now there’s just a new little one? Where’s Dr. Lin?】

【Exactly, is Mr. Gu hinting at something?】

【No way! I was happily licking the screen until you said that, now I’m all worried. Are you saying that Mr. Gu and Dr. Lin broke up, and there’s no trace of him left in their lives?】

【Wait a minute, stop making stuff up. How could Mr. Gu and Dr. Lin have split?】

【Then why did Mr. Gu post these two photos? And he didn’t even say a word. I feel like there’s something he’s trying to say.】

【What? Stop scaring me, okay?】

And just like that, the trending topic quickly shifted from Gu Yang’s post showcasing his son to speculations about the possible separation between Gu Yang and Lin Xiaoran.

When Gu Yang’s secretary sent him the trending information, he could only laugh in disbelief.
“Boss, do you want to issue a statement?” the secretary asked.
“No need,” Gu Yang replied, baffled. “Why would I issue a statement? Everything’s fine with me and Lin Xiaoran. What’s the point?”

Gu Yang was perplexed by the netizens’ thought process. How had they not focused on the actual point?

Fortunately, someone eventually noticed the key detail.

【Hold on, didn’t anyone notice? Mr. Gu posted this on Dr. Lin’s phone. According to various observations, Mr. Gu and Dr. Lin have different phone models—Mr. Gu uses this one, and only Dr. Lin’s phone could have posted on Weibo. If the two had separated, why would Mr. Gu be using Dr. Lin’s phone?】

【Exactly! And think about it—why would Mr. Gu use Dr. Lin’s phone to post this? It must be that these photos were already on Dr. Lin’s phone. The easiest thing was to just use Dr. Lin’s phone to post. So Mr. Gu was probably trying to tell us that Dr. Lin took these photos.】

【Same scene, but with an incredibly cute little one added in. Over ten years have passed, but the person taking the photo is still the same. Oh my god! Mr. Gu is clearly showing off his love!】

【Remember when people thought Mr. Gu was hinting that he and Dr. Lin were separating? Talk about a slap in the face!】

【I’m loving this slap in the face! Ha ha!】

【Same here!】

【Honestly, Mr. Gu has changed so much over the years, he’s even more handsome now, don’t you think? He was handsome back then, but a bit more youthful.】

【Of course! Men get better with age.】

【But Dr. Lin doesn’t seem to have changed much. I wasn’t feeling well last week, so I went to City West Hospital for a checkup, and I purposely took a sneaky photo of Dr. Lin. Take a look.】

【Wow, I’m licking the screen! So handsome!】

【He still has this youthful energy, such a clean vibe, don’t you think?】

The fans’ comments were all over the place, but the buzz surrounding Gu Yang and Lin Xiaoran’s relationship continued to grow.

【Isn’t there a saying that happiness makes an Omega younger and more beautiful? Seems like Dr. Lin and Mr. Gu are really happy together.】

【Yeah, I’ve heard that too! Just looking at these two makes me feel happy.】

【Am I the only one who’s curious about the little cat ears on Mr. Gu’s child? Are they cat ears or fox ears?】

【I noticed that right away! So cute, right?】

【Hmm, I think they’re fox ears, doesn’t he look like an adorable little fox?】
【Yeah, they look like fox ears! And the way he’s dressed, all round and chubby, yet somehow it totally matches the fox vibe.】

【I didn’t expect Mr. Gu and Dr. Lin to be so good at raising kids. They know how to dress the little one up!】

Thanks to a quick phone call from his secretary, Gu Yang and Lin Xiaoran became aware of the buzz online. To their surprise, the fans’ focus shifted from speculating about their possible divorce to discussing the little one’s fox ears.

Lin Xiaoran found himself for the first time understanding why someone who’s guilty might feel nervous. Nobody had actually misunderstood, but he couldn’t shake the uncomfortable feeling himself.

He glared at Gu Yang, silently blaming him for posting those photos. He’d hoped that once the little one lost interest, the pictures would fade into oblivion, but now it seemed like the photo would be saved by fans forever.

Gu Yang hadn’t considered this angle. When he posted the photos, he was simply reminded of the many years he and Lin Xiaoran had been together. Despite all the changes, the feelings they shared had never changed, and he knew Lin Xiaoran felt the same way. The sweetness of that thought made him impulsively share the photos.

Of course, there was also the fact that Gu Yang had thick skin, and the initial awkwardness he felt over the little one wearing fox ears was long gone.

Now, he didn’t feel awkward at all. Instead, a memory of a dream popped into his mind. He leaned in toward Lin Xiaoran and whispered, “Actually, I had a dream earlier. In it, you really turned into a fox. Not only did you have ears, but a tail too.”

Lin Xiaoran’s eyes widened slightly, and Gu Yang continued, “The tail was so sensitive, every time it brushed against something…” He lowered his voice, speaking directly into Lin Xiaoran’s ear.

The warm breath was felt on Lin Xiaoran’s pale earlobe, and he instinctively turned his face away, though his earlobe and cheek quickly flushed with a rosy hue. He looked at Gu Yang in surprise, “You… you dreamed that too?”

Huh?

Gu Yang froze for a moment before the realization hit him. His eyes lit up with excitement. “So, you dreamed that you turned into a fox too? With a tail?”

Lin Xiaoran didn’t understand why Gu Yang was so obsessed with the tail, but yes, he had dreamed of it, and in the dream, Gu Yang was holding onto his tail.

Recalling the scene from the dream, Lin Xiaoran wished he could forget it.

He couldn’t understand why he had such a dream. It felt almost like an unfulfilled desire, but there was no reason for it, right?

Gu Yang, however, wasn’t so innocent. He mischievously whispered in his ear, “So, it turns out you have these kinds of dreams too. Looks like I haven’t been trying hard enough. I’ll make sure to work even harder from now on, okay?”

“Hey, cut it out!”

Lin Xiaoran pushed him away, giving him a playful eye-roll.

But Gu Yang continued to revel in it.

Frustrated, Lin Xiaoran suddenly remembered something and a mischievous glint flashed in his eyes. He smiled at Gu Yang, “Gu Yang, there’s something I was planning to tell you after your birthday, but I’ve decided to tell you now.”

Gu Yang instantly sensed something dangerous and was about to say, “I’m not listening,” but Lin Xiaoran spoke slowly, “The hospital wants me to go to the US for an exchange program after the New Year. It will be about a year.”

In an instant, all the joy drained from Gu Yang’s face!
